This rare and collectible recording documents the historic Rosie O'Grady's Good Time Jazz Band in the first year of the club's operation. Our busy schedule of nightly performances, daily gigs plus all the other work in town made it quite a challenge to schedule a session. We finally found a day though where we met at the studio and recorded the entire album in one afternoon.
This album finds Bill Allred and Jim Maihack on trombones, and making his debut appearance, ten year old trombonist John Allred joined us on "Sing Sing Sing" and turned in a great performance. Don Lord on cornet and Kent Abreo on clarinet complete the front line. (Note: Ken Abreo felt that regular reeds were too flimsy. He played on reed BLANKS to the utter consternation and amazement of the other reed players!) Randy Morris mans the piano, Boyd Bergeson on banjo, Warren Sauer on drums, and in one of his earliest Trad showings, Dave Gannett presents his rendition of "If I Had You" on tuba.
The band offers up a cross section of tunes taken from our nightly appearances, most of which were "head" arrangements that evolved as we played night after night.
