John Elliott first contacted me here at TUBAGEAR with some very cogent remarks. The ensuing communications soon revealed that we shared very similar careers as professional tubists, as well as many similar interests. Our ongoing friendship has been a great source of pleasure and education for me as we continue to explore unusual topics and musical conundrums. John is currently a much in demand free-lance tubist in London, where he also regularly records on a wide variety of instruments.  He is recognized as an artist on the cimbasso, the ophicleide, the bass sax and a variety of lesser-known instruments.  He is also the proud owner of Vesuvio II, the magnificent horn used by the legendary John Fletcher when he recorded the sound track for "Star Wars".

When John casually mentioned that he played the Didgeridoo, then sent me some recordings he'd done with various groups on a didj he made himself, I was stunned at the authenticity of his playing and his overall facility on this primitive but demanding instrument.
