Here's a RARE one from Jazz Tuba Pioneer Red Callender!
"Basin Street Brass"
Longtime Hollywood studio musician Red Callender made history by premiering the very first Jazz Tuba album "Red Callender Speaks Low" in 1957. This 1973 release finds Red back in the studio with his friends offering an unusual mix of tunes ranging from Dixieland to "cool" jazz, as well as Red's million-selling pop hit, "Primrose Lane" done in collaboration with Wayne Shanklin and given the Traditional Jazz treatment here.

Red was an intrepid player and never shied away from musical challenges. On this album you can hear his solo rendition of "Sophisticated Lady" and, of all things, "Lush LIfe" - a tune full of harmonic oddities. Another one of Red's compositions, "Dedicated to the Blues" is heard as the sample on this page.
